iPass Granted Additional Patents in Secure Network Transactions and Network Authentication Security

Recent patents add to iPass’ IP portfolio which contains unique Wi-Fi service quality monitoring and roaming settlement patents

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., June 13, 2012: iPass Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS), the global Wi-Fi roaming leader for enterprises and telecom service providers, today announced the issuance of additional patents that further bolsters the company’s distinctive intellectual property and patent portfolio around Wi-Fi service quality monitoring, transaction billing and settlements.

iPass owns a high-value portfolio of intellectual property around core network, device and billing competencies that forms the basis of the cloud-based iPass Open Mobile platform. These patents support the iPass Open Mobile Exchange (iPass OMX) infrastructure that enables enterprises and telecom carriers to harness the power of Wi-Fi.

“iPass maintains a strong and unique intellectual property portfolio that is composed of multiple patents focused on Wi-Fi settlement, network authentication, policy-based device authentication, and service quality management,” said Barbara Nelson, Chief Technology Officer at iPass. “iPass patents provide a strong competitive advantage in providing tailored mobility solutions for global telecom service providers to drive consumer Wi-Fi roaming and offload services while also providing insight on the customer network experience where telecom operators do not typically have visibility.”

“Today’s connectivity marketplace is rapidly growing competitive with the use of tablets and smartphone devices that all have Wi-Fi built-in,” said Steve Livingston, senior vice president of carrier development at iPass. “Our ability to incorporate our patented technology into our service offerings to support carriers provides a high-level of confidence, comfort and a complementary advantage in addressing their needs for a globally mobile Wi-Fi offering that will ultimately help drive carrier’s consumer value and loyalty to their brand.”

iPass Open Mobile delivers a scalable subscriber management and reporting platform that has a global authentication fabric with four-party authentication and is also a trusted clearinghouse for global Wi-Fi transaction settlements. In 2011 iPass supported more than 1.8 million individual users, processed more than 19 million authentications and managed 70 million Wi-Fi sessions globally.
