iPass and MobileIron Team to Help Enterprises Bring Together Mobile Connectivity, Mobile Application Management, and Mobile Device Management
Together the companies will help their enterprise customers meet the challenges of enabling and supporting a highly mobile workforce
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., March 22, 2012 – iPass® Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS), the global Wi-Fi and enterprise mobility services leader, and MobileIron, the innovator in enterprise management and security for mobile applications and devices, today announced that they are partnering to help enterprises implement a combined mobile connectivity, application management and device management offering to more efficiently and effectively meet the challenges of enabling and supporting a highly mobile workforce.
With the iPass Open Mobile platform, iPass delivers a trusted connectivity platform and the world’s largest commercial Wi-Fi Network with over 700,000 Wi-Fi venues. With MobileIron IT departments can quickly deploy thousands of smartphones and tablets without sacrificing enterprise-grade security, and they can begin securely distributing mobile applications using MobileIron’s Enterprise App Storefront. Together, the companies give IT the ability to secure, manage and monitor app and device deployment and connectivity across the entire enterprise.
“Mobile IT teams need a simple way to on-board mobile devices with the correct, approved apps and enterprise connectivity,” said Ojas Rege, VP of Strategy, MobileIron. “The partnership between MobileIron and iPass allows our customers to provide their employees the mobile apps they need on the devices they want with the connectivity they demand anywhere and everywhere.”
“By some estimates there are more than one billion mobile employees worldwide. Enterprise IT is struggling not only to manage the huge influx of consumer devices that are coming into the enterprise, but also the connectivity costs hidden in black budgets,” said Kevin Murray, vice president of product marketing at iPass. “Ensuring security at the network and device levels is essential for success. By working with MobileIron we will be able to offer our joint-customers the best of all worlds – mobile application management, mobile device management and enterprise mobility services.”
“It is good to see MobileIron and iPass working together to help bridge connectivity and mobile device management,” said Senior Mobile Enterprise Research Analyst, Stacy Crook at IDC. “It has been a challenge for enterprises in the past to find a single way to manage the on-boarding of mobile devices with the right approved corporate apps, and we see the greater integration possibilities the two companies might deliver as highly encouraging.”
The companies are also engaging in joint marketing activities such as lead sharing, webinars and customer events. MobileIron and iPass also share several system integration and channel partners, including Bechtle and Esselar.
“More and more of our customers are asking for integration between mobile connectivity and management and security,” said Marcus Jung, team leader sales CC Mobile Solutions at Bechtle. “Bringing iPass and MobileIron together makes a lot of sense, and will be very valuable to our customers.”
“With the dramatic increase in smartphone and tablet penetration within the enterprise, more and more of our customers are seeking better integration between mobile connectivity, management and security,” said Shane Taylor, director at Esselar. “So combining iPass and MobileIron is a logical move that will offer great value to businesses, especially as they look to formulate their own BYOD strategies. iPass and MobileIron are two of our most important partnerships, and we have already carried out hundreds of implementations based on their technologies today.”
Positioned in the Leaders quadrant of Gartner, Inc.’s Magic Quadrant for Mobile Device Management Software 2011, MobileIron is solving the problems CIOs face as business data and applications move to smartphones and tablets. The MobileIron Virtual Smartphone Platform and the MobileIron Connected Cloud are the first solutions to give IT and users real-time intelligence and control over mobile content, activity, and apps in order to secure the enterprise, reduce wireless cost, and improve the mobile user experience.
