Over the last year, we have witnessed unprecedented growth in mobile data traffic. According to Cisco’s Visual Networking Index, mobile traffic reached 7.2 exabytes per month at the end of 2016, having grown a staggering 63 percent over the course of the year. Consumers, including MVNO subscribers, have shown a voracious appetite for data. They demand that they receive faster network speeds and unlimited data plans at cheaper prices.
Against this backdrop, it is becoming increasingly difficult for MVNOs to maintain profitable margins and ARPU, especially tethered to carrier partners. Even though mobile networks are being continuously upgraded, in many places, Wi-Fi now offers superior connectivity and performance. And most importantly, Wi-Fi is not a space that is being crowded out by competitor MNOs and MVNOs, at least not yet. In other words, Wi-Fi has crossed the chasm.
Wishing someone were discussing the growth and development of Wi-Fi? Look no further. Our Chief Commercial Officer, Patricia Hume, will be at MVNOs World Congress to discuss how an inflection point has been reached in the growth and development of Wi-Fi, which makes embedding global Wi-Fi into an MVNOs service offering commercially lucrative.
