Tips and Tricks

  • Use the “Auto Connect” setting on your device to get online faster. That way, when you open your device at a hotspot, you’ll already be connected.
  • If you’re connected to an AT&T hotspot and you’re not at Starbucks or McDonald’s, it’s part of our paid footprint, so be sure to disconnect when you are done using Wi-Fi.
  • Be a frequent user of the Usage Meter on your iPass Open Mobile app for Androids or iOS to compare your 3G and Wi-Fi consumption. There is no additional charge for use of the application!
  • Save money by using more Wi-Fi and matching your usage to your 3G plan by accessing the Settings option on your mobile device and clicking “Usage Alert Settings”, where you can set a monthly cellular data limit.
  • Avoid billshock while traveling overseas with your iOS device by going to your settings and putting your iPhone or iPad on Airplane Mode, turning off the “Push Notifications” setting, and turning on your Wi-Fi so that you can use iPass everywhere without the additional data charges.
  • Plan your next trip using the iPass Hotspot Finder and search for wireless hotspots by zipcode, city, venue, or by using the interactive map, then read reviews of each hotspot and add them to your own personal “Trip” folder.
  • To save a hotspot that you really liked, click on it to add it to your “Favorites” folder.
  • Stay up to date by clicking the “Check for Updates” option, so you can keep your version of the iPass Open Mobile client current, as well as get updates on the newest hotspots without having to do a thing.
  • Having problems troubleshooting? Send a log to the iPass Support Team or your IT team by finding the “Send Logs” function under your Settings tab.
  • For Windows, the iPass Open Mobile client works and looks best if your screen resolution is 1024 x 768.
  • When logging into the iPass Open Mobile service, if you select the “Save Password” option, then deselect it later, the iPass Open Mobile client will remember your password until you restart the application.
  • If you are taking advantage of inflight capabilities, you will only be able to use one device to access your Wi-Fi. Also, you will be unable to stream or watch videos while inflight.
  • You can add personal networks to the iPass Open Mobile service-home networks or networks from family or friends-and get the same auto connect capabilities.
  • If you’re tired of searching in long lists of Wi-Fi networks when you want to get online, you can preload the iPass Top 100 networks list on your iOS device. This will automatically connect you when you’re near one of the top 100 iPass networks. Just open this configuration file in your iOS device’s browser and follow these instructions.
  • Japan’s Wi-Fi is password protected, just like your internet at home. Preload the passwords for Japan’s hotspots on your iOS device by opening this configuration file on your device’s browser and follow these instructions.
