The Art of Mobile Systems Management: A Healthy Dose of Endpoint Management Genesis Health System relies on wireless notebooks, tablets and handheld devices around the clock in a variety of clinical environments. Patching systems over a wireless network can be tricky, especially if you lose the connection. "If this happens, you don't want to have to reload the entire patch again," explains Kevin Stanfield, client device administrator at Genesis' Davenport, Iowa Medical Center. Endpoint Policy Management's checkpoint restart feature efficiently resumes updates as needed, while dynamic bandwidth throttling ensures bandwidth priority for critical tasks.
Digital Cyanide for Stolen Data Should a notebook fall into the wrong hands-whether it's stolen or simply misplaced-IT managers can now be assured that confidential data never gets into the wrong hands with the delivery of a "poison pill" the first time the missing device touches the Internet. The iPass-hosted and enterprise hosted versions of Endpoint Policy Management now include a standard package that can be deployed by an administrator to instantly remove sensitive data and even disable notebooks in the event of a theft. While these are unfortunate events, it is reassuring to know that Endpoint Policy Management can help mitigate these circumstances. Another iPass customer recently found an ingenious way to motivate uncooperative users into security compliance. One user's notebook contained an unknown infection. IT staff repeatedly asked the user to send the notebook in for a hands-on diagnosis, but he simply wouldn't comply. IT pushed a package out to the notebook that caused a popup screen to appear every five minutes, reminding the user to return the machine. When he continued to work through these interruptions, IT pushed out another package that caused the notebook to shut down automatically upon booting. The notebook was returned the next day.
