Device Management:
Addressing the Dell Battery Recall without Draining Resources
The Power of Dynamic Groups
Within Device Management, administrators can quickly build Dynamic Groups and Subgroups using inventory details and the model numbers described above. Views of these groups can be customized into accurate reports that can be printed, faxed or viewed as Web pages in the Web Administrator console. Now that affected machines can be targeted, administrators can use Device Management's intuitive Package Editor to create and distribute packages that:
Inform users of the recall. A package can present a message box to affected users, asking them to contact the help desk for assistance with their computer system battery, or linking them to a form on Dell.com to request a new battery.
Share inventory information with help desk staff. Inventory information within Device Management can be packaged and made available to help desk personnel looking for additional details or troubleshooting help.
Verify that batteries have been replaced. A package that alters a registry key or file can be deployed to targeted machines. This registry key can then be collected as standard inventory of the client system. Additional Dynamic Groups can then track which clients have been repaired and which haven't.
