Wrap-up and summary from Mobile World Congress

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

So what do we take away from 4 days of mobility, android, LTE and lively chat? Here are my top 3 items:

  1. LTE is here; it is performing well; and will in the next two years provide more bandwidth for resource-hungry apps. The older 2G and to some extent 3G networks will be gone within 2-4 years.
  2. Mobile cloud computing is just about to become a reality. The move towards the mobile cloud is already real for some and will become the norm for most of us in the next 5 years or so. It will be a rapid change, not even an evolution, but a quick change. We are using the cloud now but in most cases we do not realize it.
  3. Users are now in control of the changes (Mobilocracy rules!); no longer can the operator or vendor dictate what or will not be available. If you do not have it, then people will move and you will have to change to survive. All those efforts to reduce churn will be for naught.

Item 3 will perhaps be the most powerful change to the mobile world!

Until the next MWC 2012…….

Adieu from a wet Barcelona.
