Workshifting – trends in the Mobile Workforce

I’m connecting via wireless due to workshifting. I could be at the park, the coffee shop, or …it doesn’t matter.
Our next Mobile Workforce Report, releasing Tuesday, will be covering the habits and trends of the mobile workforce, across the globe. And this quarter, we cover “workshifting” or the ability to work when and where we want to.
Here’s my play on the term, giving you some insights to some of the trends. Stay tuned for the report, or subscribe to receiving it so that you can see the changes over time. Here’s what’s we found this quarter with mobile workers:
W: Working in nature: 37% worked while at a park; 16% while on a hiking trail.
O: Off-hours: 56% will push work to off-hours to participate in a personal commitment.
R: Roaming: 43% had a data roaming bill that they thought was excessive.
K: Know when to disconnect: 67% are now disconnecting occasionally – 48% to spend time for family and 47% for the theatre
S: Stay connected: 97% stay connected while on vacation; 52% to not fall behind or be overwhelmed upon return.
H: Home: the most common place to work outside the office.
I: Increased work: 55% are working at least 10 more hours per week due to flexible schedules.
F: Flexibility in the workplace: 75% work more hours because of this.
T: Time for lunch? No, 66% work during lunch at least 1-2 times.
I: Integrating work and personal: 76% use their smartphones for both uses.
N: No stopping tablets: 41% of mobile workers have a tablet, compared to 34% last quarter. (iPad 2 wins).
G: Greater productivity: 54% have it – due to flexible work schedules.
