Tell us about your “electronic leash” – for a chance to win an iPad
Monday, July 9th, 2012 Karen Ambrose Hickey, EditorToday’s Wall Street Journal and other media discussed the France Telecom outage last Friday afternoon.
Possibly due to a software error, the network was down for more than 12 hours, forcing customers to find a fixed line. Fortunately for business workers, much of the work week was winding down.
The outage gave a glimpse on how much we rely on our mobile devices to stay in touch – with clients, colleagues and kids. “For some, the breakdown was like a time warp into a less-frenetic era, away from what some French people call the “electronic leash.”
We are still collecting survey responses for the Q3 Mobile Workforce Report. How much do you rely on your device? 32% are saying that they don’t ever disconnect completely. More mobile workers are using Wi-Fi, instead of cellular to do email or international voice calls.
