Tabletpalooza at CES
Monday, January 10th, 2011 John Gallagher, Sr. Public Relations Manager
At CES last week, more than 35 companies announced iPad-type tablets for 2011, most based on Android 3.0. This is only the tip of the iceberg on tablets, considering that Apple is expected to release a new version of the iPad in April, and the Android Honeycomb OS, the first version of the operating system designed specifically for tablets, is right around the corner.
We asked mobile workers what mobile devices they got over the holidays, and found out that 28 percent of mobile workers got a tablet (34 percent got a new smartphone). The majority got the iPad (22 percent), followed by the Samsung Galaxy (5 percent). The Dell Streak barely made a showing.
And how do mobile workers plan to use their new tablets? 71 percent plan to use it for some work (65 percent for both personal business and work).
The tablet provides significant appeal to mobile workers, from the instant-on feature, to a comfortable one-hand form factor. For 2011, we expect to see more and more tablets among the most mobile workers. And based on the “Tabletpalooza” at CES, mobile workers will have plenty of models to choose from.
