Weekly News of Interest – Paying for connectivity

Although new Android tablets are making headlines today, I thought I would do a round-up of connectivity pricing.
After my posts last week about “too many screens,” I liked this article, “Wireless service plans tailored on subscribers, not on devices.”
As we found in our Mobile Workforce Report, mobile employees are carrying more than two devices. Why can’t you get a plan that focuses on the users’ needs rather than on each (now, overlapping) device?
Clearwire added unlimited pay-as-you-go plans under the Rover brand to its national WiMAX service. Maybe more people will try the service, before rival 4G networks launch.
Verizon is offering unlimited and 25MB Pre-Paid plans. Although this includes most of their newer phones, some comments on the articles noted how low 25MB really is.
Skype Connect is now available to business customers. Skype says that approximately 37% of Skype users reported that they use Skype for business-related activities and many companies, like Skype, are looking at the potential amount of enterprise IT spending.
Virgin Mobile Heats Up Prepaid Mobile Broadband Wars. The article mentions benefits such as a lower price than Verizon, no contract and pay-as-you-use flexibility.
And finally, more free in your connectivity. Of course I’ve tried the new Google Voice! And it sounded like…a phone call over the Internet. But it was free.
