Our mobile employee trying to get to Mobile World Congress

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Conference trips are not always glamorous, as you all are made to believe in the movies. I just want to get to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but it wasn’t as quick as planned.

For example, see the Frankfurt departure lounge! I will be here for two hours, looking to fill time. Delayed due to mechanical problems.

I had an interesting chat with a South African Engineer who has a passion for Harley’s – he has Harley T-Shirts from all over the world. He has flown all the way from Jo’burg for a conference in Palermo on Automotive Connectors. Lives by the coast and watches Dolphins go by during his off hours. The town he lives in has 45 houses. (Truly a mobile worker!)

Waiting for flights is always not that interesting. Especially without an internet connection. I’m starting to look at all the places to travel to with departure gates to Geneva, Katowice, Bangalore, Moscow and even Washington DC. The airport is starting to feel better connected than my laptop.

Now, I’m off to explore and will share pictures along the way. First, I come across a Red M&M set up as Einstein – chocolate makes you think smart? I’ll tell that to Marketing back home. They’ll like the chocolate connection.

Then a Lego set which is showing the seamy underbelly of the City (which City??); check out the expressions on those faces! Is ATM robbery so popular, there needs to be a toy?

Now, the departure lounge is full of people on their way to Barcelona for the MWC. (See my first glimpse in the photo).

Two hours is up and we are off to Barcelona! I’m soon “in the cloud” although I couldn’t connect to it sooner. And, yes, a bonus! A fellow passenger recommends three good restaurants in the city.

Let the show begin!
