New Hotspots: Oakland, Luxembourg, UK and more
Monday, August 16th, 2010 Karen Ambrose Hickey, EditorIn July, more than 1,300 hotspots were added to the global Mobile Network! The total iPass footprint includes 150,000 venues in more than 90 countries and 600 airports worldwide—88 of the World’s Top 100 are among the hotlist!
New venues of special interest were added globally:
- Tired of fog and other weather-related delays in SFO? Oakland is a mere 30-45 minutes from downtown San Francisco, but doesn’t suffer from quite the same inclement weather.
- For years in the limelight of popular San Francisco, Oakland is undergoing a high-end restaurant boom with an expanding riverfront social scene thanks to the revitalization of Jack London Square. Experience the amazing Jazz Club and Japanese Restaurant, Yoshi’s (also available in SF), some would argue also partly responsible for the culinary movement!
- If you’re heading to the California Bay Area, we also count San Jose International Airport, 45 minutes south of SFO, among our favorite iPass hotspots too.
The Hotel Le Royal, Luxembourg—The only five-star hotel in Luxembourg
Back in February, we announced availability of a mesh Wi-Fi footprint in Luxembourg. Including the mesh wi-fi zones, Luxembourg International Airport and now the Hotel Le Royal added to the list, you have plenty of places to stay connected while traveling abroad. If you make it to Le Royal this summer, enjoy the seasonal cocktail promotion (Les Summer Cocktails) at the hotel’s Piano Bar, perfect for meetings of business or leisure. Six Venues in the UK: Luxury Hotels and Conference Center
iPass partner Hotel Broadband has added 6 new venues, mainly luxury hotels, in the UK– offering both Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections.

- BW Sudbury House Hotel
- Blunsdon House Hotel
- Alton Towers Resort (Conference Center)
- The Bull Hotel-Sarova
Hotspots were added in other countries including Germany, Argentina, Australia, Hong Kong, the Fiji Islands, South Africa, Egypt and more!
What’s Coming . . .
Even though we have the single largest footprint available, iPass is continually adding other hotspots to its footprint. Look out for the addition of upcoming locations such as the prestigious, Rembrandt Hotel in Knightsbridge, London, as well as the Grand Jersey Hotel and Spa—due to go live in early September!
