More from MWC (pics)

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Here are a few more pictures and comments from attendees from iPass at the Mobile World Conference.

One of our product managers commented: Wi-Fi connectivity was the predominant theme. Not only futures, but how do we make it work now, with today’s technology and standards. Offload was a huge topic, but roaming on to visited networks was also prevalent.

He summed up what he heard as:

  • Reduced friction in every case = more adoption.
  • How do we grow the pie for all rather than competing for a bigger slice of the same size pie?

When I asked another executive that was present for meetings about the themes, I got: “Wi-Fi is big; carriers are looking for ways to leverage it.”

More from our announced partnership with Cubic:
“Consumer appetite for mobile data services and always on connectivity has been increasing significantly, particularly for business travelers. By partnering with iPass we will be able to give our customers global access to Wi-Fi giving them even higher data speeds and availability without worrying about bill-shock and enormous fees,” Barry Napier, CEO Cubic Telecom added.

This is Cubic’s product on back of Easyjets seats (deals to supply EasyJet travellers with MaxRoam SIM cards):

I am often disappointed when I have a flight that doesn’t have it. I don’t necessarily plan to work, but it’s nice to have the option. More Wi-Fi, gives more options!

  2. Robert Duncan says:

I’m looking forward to availability of Wi-Fi on flights! Thanks for continuing to expand the available Wi-Fi footprint.
