Major Projects for Your CIO

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Last week the analyst firm Gartner held their symposium and one comment resonated: “Technology is no longer the preserve of the CIO…It has become everyone’s property and everyone’s issue,” said Ken McGee, a Gartner Fellow. The company identified seven business and IT issues that CIOs should seriously consider taking action on during the next three years:

  1. Alignment of IT and “Operations Technology” (OT)
  2. Business Gets Social media
  3. Pattern-Based Strategy investments
  4. Cloud Computing
  5. Context-Aware Computing
  6. Sustainability
  7. Balancing Cost and Innovation with Risk and Governance – the new realities of IT.

By integrating the IT and OT groups together, enterprises can look at improved architectural decisions that afford them to streamline their budgets – that’s what iPass CEO, Evan Kaplan, has been espousing for some time with the iPass Open Mobile platform.

Our latest report on the mobile workforce also affirms Gartner’s predictions that CIOs need to push their businesses to ‘get’ social media. Mobile employees are using social media and it’s not just younger employees either. In reality, older generations are just as disruptive to the status quo in the workforce today and utilizing their knowledge, experience and productivity to its full advantage will keep companies ahead in their fields. Don’t believe me? Go check out the report and some of the interest it has been generating.
