Thursday, April 7th, 2011 Chris Witeck, Director Product Marketing
Earlier this month, we released the Open Mobile for Windows for customer deployments. This is a great release for our customers as the Open Mobile for Windows has been enhanced with new policy tools for keeping Enterprise Mobility costs under control along with several other great enhancements, available with the iPass Open Mobile client for Windows v1.4.1.
We’ve highlighted just some of the new features below. There are plenty more which you can learn about in the release notes or by talking to your iPass contact.
Look for us in the upcoming weeks to highlight some of the features referenced below with their own blog post.
iPass Open Mobile for Windows Release Highlights:
Prefer, Prohibit and Rename Network Policies: Allows administrators to set conditions on how users can connect to specific networks. Administrators will be able to define networks and then specify the options to:
- Prefer networks to appear at the top of the Open Mobile networks list
- Hide all other networks when a preferred network appears
- Prohibit or blacklist networks (hide or gray out)
- Rename specific network connections to something that is more user friendly
- Disable auto-connect to specific networks.
3G Roaming Usage Limits & Alerts: Provides the ability to set thresholds for 3G roaming data usage, and warn the user and/or block access when the threshold is reached. Administrators can:
- Set monthly roaming data usage thresholds for when customizable alerts can be passed to users, and set limits for when additional customizable alerts will be passed
- Set monthly roaming data usage limits for when access will be blocked
- Set ‘In Session’ roaming data usage thresholds that will trigger a customizable alert to the user
Blackberry Tethering: Support for tethered Blackberry devices. Users can connect their Blackberry to their laptop computer and then use Open Mobile to make a connection via the tethered Blackberry device. When connected, the Blackberry device appears in the Open Mobile GUI as an available 3G connection.
