Android is the top mobile OS in U.S., but the Apple iPhone is the most popular phone.
From the article, the Android OS powered 39% of smartphones in the U.S. last month, while Apple’s iOS landed in second place with 28% and Research In Motion’s Blackberry phones fell 1% from May to a 20% share of the market in third place, Nielsen said.
But, if you are talking handsets. It’s the iPhone. At 28% of the market.

Smartphone market up 55% in 2011 and Windows Phone OS could be No. 2 by 2015, according to International Data Corp. in its Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report. It also stated that about 472 million smartphones could ship to retailers in 2011, significantly outpacing an estimated 305 million shipped in 2010.
Samsung is rapidly catching up, experiencing well over 300 percent growth in global smartphone market share over the same quarter last year. Samsung now has 13 percent of the market according to a report by IMS Research.
