Four surveys: mobilocracy pushes for the clouds
Thursday, December 22nd, 2011 Karen Ambrose Hickey, EditorThree more surveys are out, to go along with the iPass Mobile Workforce Report.
Maybe we blame it on the carmera or GPS? Tech gadgets are driving mobile technology are driving BYOD to work policies are driving cloud computing are driving CIOs to frustration (although they also BYOD).
From the Mobile Workforce Report, 95 percent of mobile employees have smartphones, with the iPhone now being the top phone being brought into the workplace. These phones have been gaining new features putting other consumer technology on the sidelines.
A survey by Accenture found that “43% [of global employees] are quite happy to be making their own technology decisions for work.” And that includes bringing them in.
The CSC survey of IT executives finds that a “third of survey respondents cited accessibility to information through multiple devices as the most important reason for their decision to adopt cloud computing….Companies find the cloud a more manageable solution to providing connectivity to all the devices (including BYOD, or bring your own devices) in use today.” IT is responding towards capitalizing on making these workers more productive. And we know that mobile workers can put in an additional 10 hours per week with this flexibility.
A survey of CIOs by Compuware, found that 77% of CIOs are fretting about the business risks that IT consumerization may bring. Yet it’s happening, making this finding more ironic: the Accenture survey also found that 49% of executives say they also bring their own devices into the workplace. In fact, 88% agree that consumer technology used by their employees can improve job satisfaction.
What new devices will be coming into the workplace in two weeks?
