Enterprise Applications – for the daily mobile worker
Wednesday, October 20th, 2010 John Gallagher, Sr. Public Relations Manager
It’s easy to overlook, from this ergonomically designed chair that most mobile workers don’t pad their posteriors in office chairs all day. In fact a significant amount of people are out-and-about all day. So when I pondered on AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets CEO, Ralph de la Vega’s comments at CTIA recently, I wondered how mobile applications would impact those truly mobile workers on a daily basis.
Verizon’s Field Force Manager has been in the market for some time but another validation point for the Android operating system arrived yesterday with this mobile worker management application now available on the iOS competing platform. Motorola Droid, Droid 2, Droid Incredible and Motorola Droid X are all comfortably running the application.
Field Force Manager is a location-based mobile resource management tool that provides businesses with the ability to locate, monitor, and communicate with their mobile field workers.
Importantly, this is another validation of Android’s acceptance in the business community as an OS device for secure mobile communications. With greater revenue generating force, enterprise applications, such as Field Force Manager, cost anywhere from $15 per month up to $30 each month per smartphone – not including the cost of data – consumer mobile application developers take note!
On a related note, Gartner discussed at their Symposium yesterday, the value of enterprise applications changing the game for businesses, as consumerization continues to affect corporate IT.
According to their press release, Gartner estimates by the end of this year, 1.2 billion people will carry handsets capable of rich, mobile commerce providing an ideal environment for the convergence of mobility and the Web. Not only did Mobile Apps jump up to the #2 position, but the unforeseen success of the iPad, also merged into that category.
