Here’s a few articles to keep you, the mobile worker, going:
Nielson: Smartphone data usage up 89% in a year by Don Kellogg, Nielsen
Nielson data showed the amount of data the average smartphone user consumes per month grew 89 percent in the last 12 months, jumping from 230 MB in the first quarter 2010 to 435 MB in the first quarter 2011. Key bytes about the data tsunami:
- Those in the top 10% consume more, and the top 1% consumed even more
- 582 MBs per month for the average Android owner and 492 MBs for the average iPhone user
- Windows 7 users also picked up, possibly due to more apps being available.
Devicescape: Average data offload to Wi-Fi is 40 percent by Lynnette Luna
Sampling 1 million devices offloading data to the Devicescape Virtual Wi-Fi Network over the course of a month, they found that each handset performed an average of eight Wi-Fi sessions a day or 240 in a month, averaging an offload of 40 percent.
In our August, 2010 Mobile Workforce Report, we found that nearly half of MOBILE WORKERS use Wi-Fi on their smartphones: 31.8 percent because it is faster than 3G, yet only 15.6 percent because it is cheaper.
