Introducing: Wi-Fi Hotspot Live! This Friday, SFO

SFO Terminal 2 San Francisco AirportAre you traveling through SFO tomorrow? Meet up with Chris!

Chris, iPass VP of Product Management & User Experience, will be at the Starbucks before security at Terminal 2 at the San Francisco Airport. Come by and ask any iPass questions, provide feedback, get started on downloading the iPass client for your mobile device and get a free 24-hour Wi-Fi pass. You can also ask her about her Wi-Fi diet and any tips for saving on 3G/4G costs.

iPass employees will soon visit some hotspots around the world, giving away passes and answering questions. We will be sure to let you know when the next one is.

Inflight Wi-Fi testing with sacks of potatoes

Complex equations, Metrology lab calibrations and…20,000 pounds of potatoes. All for testing inflight Wi-Fi.

Companies are going to great lengths to bring us a strong, steady inflight Wi-Fi experience. In PCMag.com, Boeing Tests In-Flight Wi-Fi … With Potatoes, Boeing shows its creativity in its effort to build in-flight Wi-Fi systems. Rather than asking real people to sit on test planes for hours, the company is replacing them with sacks of potatoes.

Pototoes mimic the interactions that a human body will have with the radio waves.

This way, the mobile worker doesn’t need to worry whether they get a strong signal in any row and in any position at the seat.

Cyber Monday: Mobile shopping or shopping for mobile

Cyber Monday App Return Guru Cool Mom TechCyber Monday is upon us. Not only are shoppers looking for mobile deals, but they are out in force shopping via mobile devices.

According to IBM’s Digital Analytics Benchmark in Cyber Monday Sales Are Already Up 24 Percent; iPhone Driving Most Traffic To Retail Sites, there is a 24.1 percent jump in online sales from for this same time period over Cyber Monday 2011. Also:

“Mobile shopping is also performing well with the current number of consumers using a mobile device to visit a retailer’s site at 22.4 percent. The number of consumers using their mobile device to make a purchase is at 12 percent.

By device, the iPhone is driving more retail shopping than any other device with traffic reaching 8.7 percent versus 7.2 percent and 6.3 percent for iPad and Android respectively. Shoppers referred from Social Networks have generated .2 percent of all online sales on Cyber Monday.”
