Android smartphone users prefer iPads
Tuesday, July 12th, 2011 Karen Ambrose Hickey, EditorHey you Android smartphone users? What’s your tablet?
Tell us on our Facebook poll: Android users: Which tablet do you own?
Personally, I’m an Android user, (starting with a beta G-1), yet I bought myself an iPad not long after they first came out (that’s my mobile stack in the photo). So I was not surprised by today’s article by Zach Epstein, Android users buy the iPad over Google-powered tablets on BGR.
See the chart below, but Apple’s early lead just keeps widening. “Canaccord sees Apple selling 35.8 million iPads this year and 55.1 million units in 2012, well ahead of its closest competitor Samsung, which is expected to sell 7.5 million tablets this year and 12 million tablets in 2012.”
This theme continues in Rob D. Young’s article, comScore: iPad Obliterating Android Tablets. “A new comScore report, known as “Device Essentials,” is taking a look at numerous elements of non-computer traffic – including device, OS, carrier, and mode of access for tablets, smartphones, and other Internet-enabled devices. Initial data shows iPad obliterating Android in the tablet market, with Android and iOS competing closely in the smartphone market.” Seems that there is often a country bias. (Along the lines of the “pizza wars” or “soda wars.”)
Also in support of these growing numbers, IDC reports that tablet shipments fell 28% in Q1 after the strong 2010 holiday season, but IDC still revised their 2011 projection upward by 3 millions units to a total of 53.4 million units worldwide.

I have a response for you…
The password restriction has to do with restrictions that some of our hotspot providers enforce. We used to tie our password limits to those limits. But since most hotspots no longer have that type of password restriction, we no longer limit the password length in our Open Mobile clients. For Macs, Open Mobile client v1.1 and later does not have the 15 character password restriction. Also, Open Mobile for Mac does support 64bit devices.
Hope this helps!
Can’t see where else to leave a comment, so…
Why does the Mac iPass control panel restrict my password to 15 characters (it’s not, it’s longer) and when will a 64bit version be available?
