A Billion Acts of Green – Earth Day 2011

Today (depending on where you are in the world), is Earth Day. And, according to the Earth Day Network, this year’s event is themed, “A Billion Acts of Green”.
From the site, I found many, many pledges in how people will act. Some are related to a mobile workforce, including:
- Not driving to work
- Using a mug, rather than a throwaway cup
- Encouraging telecommuting at their companies, and teleworking more
- Recycling all paper (and plastics, and glass)
- Changing the source of electricity for appliances
After going through the Internet, I’ve added more advice:
- Use a different kind of phone charger
- Gizmodo talked about some other green gadgets, including the Samsung Reclaim Cell Phone
- AT&T is announcing the ZERO charger, which does not use electricity while plugged in and not in use
- Recycle your cell phones and other electronics. There are more organizations than I can list here with programs to help, including Goodwill, Best Buy, and more, including Verizon which donates old phones to HopeLine, support for domestic violence victims.
- Office Depot will accept used writing equipment for vouchers off new merchandise
- Starbucks, a place for mobile working, is offering a free coffee or tea, if you bring your own mug.
- United/Continental released news that for every customer who uses a mobile boarding document on Earth Day, the company will donate $1 to help Protect an Acre
Or…I know that this is radical, since 54% of you never really, ever, disconnect…But, maybe power down for an hour. Off. Unplugged. Not even a peek.

During earth day, I pledged to recycle more plastic!
